Our combo includes idli rice, urad dal, fenugreek seeds, and salt, all of which are necessary to prepare the perfect batter for your idlies. List of Grocery Items

1)Skholla Idli Rice / Puzhungal Arisi 2 Kg
2)Skholla Urad Dal / Ulutham Paruppu 1 Kg
3)Skholla Fenugreek / Vendhayam 100g
4)Aashirvaad Iodized Salt 1 Kg

Ingredients

2 cups of idly rice
1 cup of urad dal (split black gram)
1 tsp of fenugreek seeds
Salt to taste
Water for grinding

Instructions

1)Rinse the idly rice and urad dal separately and soak them in water for at least 4 hours. You can also soak fenugreek seeds along with urad dal.

2)After 4 hours, drain the water and grind the urad dal to a smooth and fluffy consistency. Use water as required while grinding.

3)Transfer the urad dal batter to a large mixing bowl and keep it aside.

4)Next, grind the soaked idly rice to a fine batter consistency. Use water as required while grinding.

5)Transfer the idly rice batter to the mixing bowl containing urad dal batter.

6)Add salt to taste and mix both the batters well with your hands. Make sure that the batter is of thick pouring consistency.

7)Allow the batter to ferment for at least 8-10 hours or overnight in a warm place.

8)After fermentation, you will see the batter has risen and become airy. Mix the batter well once again.

9)Grease the idly moulds with oil or ghee. Pour the batter into the idly moulds until it is about 3/4th full.

10)Steam the idlies in an idly cooker or a steamer for about 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through.

11)To check if the idlies are cooked, insert a toothpick or a knife in the center of the idly. If it comes out clean, the idlies are cooked.

12)Allow the idlies to cool for a few minutes and then gently remove them from the moulds with a spoon or a spatula.

13)Serve hot idles with coconut chutney, sambar or any other side dish of your choice.
